US VP Dick Cheney Invited to Dinner

Dateline: Calgary - RW Newswire

On September 8th, US Vice President Dick Cheney will be in Calgary attending a $5000 to $10,000 a plate "by invitation only" dinner. Cheney will be here at the invitation of Michael Walker, CEO of the Fraser Institute.

Also attending, although certainly not paying, will be Alberta's Premier Ralph Klein and BC's Premier Gordon Campbell.

When asked about the high price of the dinner Walker indicated that $10,000 was not really that much to pay for access to someone as powerful as Mr. Cheney. "Besides" he said, "he's got some Iraq jokes that will blow your socks off. The one about Ackmed, the camel and the widow is worth the price of admission alone."

Walker indicated that he had asked Premier Klein to select a venue for the dinner as he was the most familiar with the Calgary locale. In the spirit of Western hospitality, Premier Klein (shown here on the left) has spent the last week sampling the wares at various eateries and has made his selection. The dinner will be held at Tony Roma's: Famous for Ribs on McLeod Trail.

We apologize to Premier Campbell for the picture shown here. We had requested a more recent photograph from his office but it was not forthcoming in time to meet our publication deadlines. This necessitated us using a dated picture of the Premier.

Further details about the dinner may be found here.
